UK inflation falls to fresh four-year low in March

UK CPI inflation fell for a sixth consecutive month in March to hit a fresh four-year low, according to latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

CPI inflation fell from 1.7% in February to 1.6% this month, the ONS said, in line with economists' expectations and continuing the trend seen in recent months. The figure is the lowest level seen since October 2009, when CPI inflation stood at 1.5%. The largest contribution to this month's fall came from transport, particularly motor fuels, according to the ONS. CPI inflation has now fallen every month since September 2013, when the rate stood at 2.7%.
