Queen's speech announces bill on social care

New legislation to reform the long-term care system has been set out in the Queen's Speech.

The Queen told MPs: "My government is committed to supporting people who have saved for retirement. "Legislation will be introduced to reform the way long-term care is paid for, to ensure the elderly do not have to sell their homes to meet their care bills." The long-awaited care and support bill will be introduced in the 2013/2014 Parliamentary session. However, the speech did not reveal further details of the reforms.
