Number of firms de-authorising jumps 214%

The number of firms de-authorising jumped 214% between March and April, according to research by Matrix Solutions based on Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) data.

The number of authorised firms fell by 44 between March and April, from 23,582 to 23,538. This is compared to a decrease of just 14 between February and March. Registered individuals leaving the industry followed a similar pattern, with a decrease of 187 from March to April, from 129,607 to 129,420, compared to the 86 that left between February and March 2013. The research also showed that the number of authorised firms decreased by 385 between December 2012 and April, from 23,923 to 23,538.
