Billionaire Hargreaves rises to 47 on Rich List

Peter Hargreaves is now the country's 47th richest person, with a fortune of more than £1.5bn, according to the 2013 Sunday Times Rich List.

The owner of Bristol-based Hargreaves Lansdown moved from 90th place in 2012 to 47th this year. His wealth stood at £830m last year. It was up £693m over the past 12 months and now stands at about £1.5bn. He had fallen down the wealth list last year – from 65 in 2011 to 90 – but gained a new record position this year. The Sunday Times said Hargreaves Lansdown’s revenue in the three months to September 2012 had increased by 20% to £68.7m. It was a record for the firm, which floated in 2007 valued at £760m.
