The Platforum dismisses unit rebate ban 'rumour mill'

Consultancy The Platforum has dismissed speculation the Financial Services Authority (FSA) is set to ban unit rebates as part of its platform paper.

Delays to the paper, combined with the FSA's intention to ban cash rebates, have caused frustrations among providers. But the FSA would stop short of a full ban encompassing unit rebates, according to Platforum managing director Holly Mackay (pictured), in an email to subscribers. "We're not sure where the story about banning unit rebates came from this week," she said. "The FSA has obviously been clear about its intent to ban cash rebates which they think could look like commission and be used to pay the adviser charge.
