Aviva set to post shock £3bn loss - reports

Insurance giant Aviva is likely to shock the City when it posts a £3bn loss in its full-year results this week, the Sunday Times reports.

The life and pensions provider has been going through a major business restructure, which has resulted in the loss of 800 jobs and the sale of several of its overseas operations. Full-year results, to be released this week, will show that the sale of its American business has triggered a write-down of £3.2bn, the report said. It added the business disposals were carried out to shore up the company's capital position, which would have protected its dividend.
