Ex-JPM banker to become CEO of Man United

Former J.P. Morgan Chase & Co investment banker Ed Woodward will become Manchester United's next chief executive in July after David Gill announced he will step down from the role at the end of the season.

Woodward worked as an investment banker in J.P. Morgan's merger and acquisition division from 1999 to 2005, prior to joining the 19-times league title winners. He joined Manchester United in 2005, helping assist the American Glazer family's controversial £790m leveraged buyout of the club. He also played a key role in United's $2.3bn flotation on the New York Stock Exchange last August. Woodward will retain his executive vice chairman title but will take on Gill's duties. He leaves the club after a decade of service
