FSA bans jailed adviser after £150k fraud

A former adviser who was jailed for two years for stealing £150,000 from his grandmother has been banned by the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

Ryan Burnside was jailed in January after the discovery of what the judge described as a "gross breach of trust". He had worked as a senior adviser at Albannach, now part of Towergate Financial Services, but was sacked in November 2008. He continued to tell his grandmother he was FSA regulated and proceeded to use her retirement pot to fund his gambling addiction. The FSA said Burnside was not a fit and proper person as his conduct demonstrated a "lack of honesty and integrity". He did not contest the decision.
