London teachers strike over pension changes

Teachers and college lecturers in London are staging strike action today over changes to their pensions.

Members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and University College Union (UCU) have walked out of classrooms across the capital for 24 hours. Some 95% of balloted NUT members backed the continuing campaign against pension scheme changes. The union said 73% of its members also agreed to take further action as needed. The latest strike follows last year's day of mass industrial action when more than a million public sector workers went on strike. Teachers enjoy access to the unfunded Teachers Pension Scheme.
