Treasury director lands top EU regulatory role

Michael Ellam, managing director of the Treasury's international and finance directorate, has been appointed chairman of the EU's financial services regulation committee.

Ellam will steer the work of the Brussels-based Financial Services Committee (FSC) ahead of meetings of the EU's 27 finance ministers while retaining his role at the Treasury in London, according to Bloomberg, which cites two unnamed UK government officials. Verena Ross, director of the FSA's international division, has already been appointed director of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).
