EU planning £35 a year cat tax Secret plans are being drawn up for a UK cat tax, it has been revealed in European court papers. The law will require cat owners in England and Wales to pay €40 (£35.70) a year for each cat they own, for which they will get an official cat licence with a picture of their pet on, This Is Money reports. It would raise around £375m a year for the Treasury - enough to cover some senior public sector managers' salaries and pensions.
