Markit paves the way for emerging debt ETFs

Index provider Markit has launched its iBoxx USD Emerging Market Sovereigns family of benchmark and tradable indices, referencing US dollar-denominated emerging market debt.

The latest addition to Markit's fixed income iBoxx range, the USD offering provides an alternative to Markit's GEMX suite of local currency denominated emerging market sovereign debt indices. The index provider says its expansion comes in response to increased investor interest in emerging market debt and includes a liquid tradable index which can be used by index-linked products such as ETFs.
