Mackay: Get ready for a new breed of platforms

A new breed of platform players, catering to the restricted advice, stock-broking and corporate wrap sectors, is poised to shake up the sector, according to MD of the Platforum consultancy, Holly Mackay.

She expects a number of life companies to enter the platform arena imminently, but rather than catering to the ‘saturated’ IFA market, they will provide new models serving the B2C, restricted advice and stockbroking sectors. “Some life companies have not declared their hand yet, and they have to have a platform strategy in place,” said Mackay. “For those life companies which have not yet launched a platform, it is inevitable that they will do at some stage.” However, Mackay thinks that the new influx of players will operate outside the traditional platform space. “There will be ...
