BBC pension cap offer upped to 4%

The BBC has raised its pensions offer to staff and staved off next week's planned strike at the broadcaster.

The improved offer would see the company's pension cap raised to 4%, up from 2.5%. It will now be put out to consultation. BBC staff who are members of the NUJ, Bectu and Unite voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action earlier this month over proposed pension scheme changes at the broadcaster. BBC management had been offering staff two options - stay in the final salary scheme but have future salary increases for calculating pension benefits capped at 1% annually, or move to a new defined contribution scheme.
