UK election result no threat to Aaa rating-Moody's

Ratings agency Moody's reiterated today the outcome of the UK general election will not threaten the Government's Aaa rating.

In a new report published today, Moody's says the absence of a one-party majority does not necessarily weaken the Government's ability to stabilise public debt in the coming years. It will also not prevent the Government from doing so at levels that are consistent with its current Aaa rating, the report says. Arnaud Mares, senior vice president in the sovereign risk group and lead analyst for the UK's sovereign rating, says the differences between the parties' fiscal plans are "rather minor, so they should not prevent compromise".
