Economists want Ken Clarke as Tory Chancellor

Ken Clarke, Vince Cable and Alistair Darling have come out as more popular choices to fill the role of Chancellor than George Osborne, among City economists.

The poll follows a recent TV debate between current Chancellor Darling, the Lib Dems' Cable and the Conservatives' Osborne. City economist favour seeing Ken Clarke - a former Chancellor for John Major and currently Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills - take the top job at the Treasury if the Conservatives win this year's General Election. He was closely followed by Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Cable, who topped IFAonline's recent poll.
