UK economy "still stuffed to the eyeballs with toxic substances" - HSBC

Britain's economy is better but is "still stuffed to the eyeballs with toxic substances", warns a senior HSBC economist.

Mark Berrisford-Smith says it is the Government, not the country, which is indebted, with no "credible plan on how to sort it out". Speaking yesterday at an INPartnership investment conference, he compared the UK economy to a patient "who is a little better but is still stuffed to the eyeballs with toxic substances, some of which, like quantitative easing (QE), are new and we don't know quite what they do". However, he is seeing some of the best PMI figures for years, which measure industrial activity. He sees these as "much more reliable than ONS growth figures" which can be revised....
