Morning Markets: Miners up as FTSE surge continues

Miners continue to lead the FTSE 100 into positive territory after rising copper prices led to a strong showing yesterday.

Shortly into Tuesday trading, London's leading blue-chip index was up more than 21 points, or 0.4%, to 5,427. Silver miner Fresnillo jumped 1.6% to 795p after doubling post-tax profits while gold miner Randgold Resources advanced 83p, or 1.7%, to £49.13. Miners made significant gains on Monday as copper prices rose in the aftermath of the deadly weekend earthquake in major producer Chile.
