Morning Markets: Miners buoy FTSE

The FTSE opened buoyantly, up more than 49 points to 5,158.28, on the back of strong performance from mining companies, due to higher metal prices because of the weak dollar.

Currently nine of the top 10 rising stocks in the FTSE 100 are mining companies. Vedanta Resources heads up the winners table, adding 120p (5.70%) to £22.25, following strong production figures. Copper mining company, Antofagasta is up 4.33% to 832p, while Kazakhmys PLC added 4.28% to £11.45. Elsewhere, Lloyds Banking Group dropped 0.65% to 95p as the Government's stake in the part-nationalized bank is set to rise from 43% to 62%. The FTSE's rise follows a steady day for the Dow Jones which ended trading broadly sideways at 9725.58. Alcoa took pole position, climbing 2.23% to $1...
