Complaints made against firms in the personal investment category, which includes IFAs, have dropped from 46,529 in the first half of 2006 to only 17,173 in the second half of last year.
The improved score card for advisers is against a backdrop of growing dissatisfaction with banks and building societies. Banking and loans complaints make up a huge proportion of the total 1,476,183 complaints recorded against firms in the latter half of 2008 at 870,124. Complaints in this areas also contributed to a massive spike in the total number of complaints against firms in H1 2007 (2,015,462), as customers complained about overcharging and poor customer service.
