Pension whistleblowing on the rise

The number of whistleblowers' breach of law reports rose to 532 in 2008/9 up from 513 the previous year, according to The Pensions Regulator(TPR).

It also reported a "small but significant" increase in the number of cases which needed intervention in the past year. The regulator says it "continues to remain vigilant" and encouraged trustees, employers, advisers, managers and administrators to make contact if they have concerns. Its annual report - which was laid before Parliament yesterday - also stated 4874 reports have been received on late and non-payment of contributions to personal pensions and occupational pension schemes between April 1 2008 and March 31 2009.
