FSA may intervene on product pricing

The FSA says it may consider intervening on product pricing as part of its drive to ensure fairer outcomes for consumers.

Speaking at an FSA conference in Cambridge last night, chairman Lord Adair Turner questioned whether the market is dogged by "too much" innovation and products which have become too complex. He pointed to research suggesting given greater choice, consumers often "prefer not to act at all" for fear of making the wrong choice. "Should we be prepared to intervene on pricing, even at the expense of access to the market for some people?" Lord Turner asks.
