Consumers are increasingly aware of the need to save more and work longer in order to have enough income at retirement, suggests the latest ABI Savings index.
Details of the study, published at the ABI’s biennial conference in London today, reveal four out of ten people believe the government’s proposal to offer a lump sum if they postpone taking income from their state pension benefits will encourage them to work longer. Similarly, the offer of more generous state pension increments is attractive to 40% of those questioned if they do not take a lump sum but still work longer alongside over a third (37%) who would do so if they can claim their occupational pension while working part-time.
