Youth club funding top priority for dormant assets

The funding of youth services will take priority over financial capability and inclusion initiatives when distributing unclaimed assets, says HM Treasury.

A consultation document, launched by Ed Balls MP, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, and Ed Miliband, Minister for the Third Sector, outlines the proposals for the “effective and efficient distribution” of assets in dormant accounts. The 52-page document proposes the unclaimed assets, from bank and building society accounts which have lain dormant for at least 15 years, will be distributed through the Big Lottery Fund, as it has a national distribution infrastructure in place and the capacity to handle assets on this scale.
