Equity release more popular with workers than retirees

Equity release products are more popular with working people than retirees, according to research from Norwich Union (NU).

NU surveyed over 1,600 people aged between 50 and 66 and found those approaching retirement had a more favourable attitude to equity release than people who had already retired. The research found 9% of pre-retired respondents said they would probably take out an equity release product during their retirement, while just 5% of retired people intended to do so. NU also claims pre-retired people have a more positive attitude to equity release, with over a third saying it was a sensible option for older people, while only a quarter of retired people thought it was a good idea.
