Although the Conservative Party's pension policy is still under review, the party is likely to still support the scrapping of compulsory annuities, Nigel Waterson, shadow minister for pensions has told IFAonline.
Following government opposition to the Rights of Savers Bill, put forward by former shadow work and pensions secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind, Waterson says he is still confident of some elements of the Bill. He says although the debate has moved on since the Bill was first introduced in June last year, with the Party now currently working hard on its response to Turner there are elements of the Bill which are still relevant, adding he is “pretty confident the scrapping of compulsory annuities with some safeguards would be part of the new Conservative policy”.
