BP leads FTSE recovery

The FTSE 100 Index has added 73.6 points, or 1.3%, to 5636.50 points this morning, led by BP and a recovery among mining companies.

BP has gained 10p, or 1.7%, to 613p after the shares fell 3.4% yesterday. Rio Tinto has increased 93p, or 3.6%, to 2,673p, BHP Billiton has added 35p, or 3.7%, to 970.50p and Anglo American has risen 55p, or 3%, to 1,900p. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 117.81 points, or 0.8%, to 14,750.84 points, rebounding from a six-month low, after a report on machinery orders showed evidence of growth in the economy. Komatsu surged 121 yen, or 6.2%, to 2,060, Kubota soared 77 yen, or 8.3%, to 1,006 and SMC climbed 830 yen, or 5.8%, to 15,060. Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance surged 99 y...
