Financial services gains bring FTSE to 5000

The FTSE 100 index closed the day up back over the 5,000 mark again on Tuesday, as money managers and financial services firms made the best gains.

Schroders and Amvescap made the best leap in share values today, as Schroders leapt 45 or 6.11% to 781p and Amvescap rose 16p or 4.69% to 357p, which in turn lifted the FTSE 100 by 32 points or 0.64% to 5000.5 points. Three of the firms who have today announced new multi-tie distribution deals with Barclays Bank have closed the day up. Aviva earned 12.5p or 1.93% to 660.5p while Prudential added 11.5p or 2.43% to 484.5p and Friends Provident rose 6.5p or 3.96% 170.75p.
