Offshoring debate goes hot

Members of the Amicus trade union are preparing pickets of Norwich Union sites across the country in response to its representatives being denied access to offices after stepping up a campaign against offshoring of jobs.

The action, starting today, comes in response to an Amicus survey of NU staff about their views. On the basis of 1,900 responses from some 9,000 postal forms sent out, the survey has found an overwhelming majority expressing concern about job security sparked by increasing globalisation of the job market. A spokesman for Amicus says the fact representatives, including those NU employees seconded to union work, have been told they cannot return to sites to push the issue means the union will look to recruit outside the sites affected. ”The company doesn’t like the results of the sur...
