The confusion surrounding a start date for the tenancy deposit scheme appears to have been resolved with the announcement today the scheme would not now come into force until 6 April 2007.
The scheme, which was to come into force in October and will affect the majority of buy-to-let propoerties in England and Wales, is intended to drive up standards in the rental sector and provide a greater amount of protection to both tenants and landlords by insisting rental deposits are held by an independent body rather than the landlord or letting agents.
