Kingfisher takes FTSE higher

In the UK, the FTSE 100 Index has climbed a further 17 points to 5263.30 this morning, boosted by Kingfisher.

The retailer, with stores including Woolworths, Superdrug and B&Q, has climbed 9.5p to 257p, as rumours emerge of a possible approach from a US rival. Compass group has also added 6.5p to 247p, after analysts urged investors to buy stock in the caterer, while Aviva is up 10p to 645p. On the losing end, Centrica has shed 2.75p to 221.5p, with Scottish & Newcastle down 5.25p to 477p. In Tokyo, the Nikkei climbed to a three month high, adding 0.9% to 11,764.26 at its close early this morning, led by technology stocks including Advantest Toshiba.
