Progress from Royal Liver has removed two examples of pre-malignant cancers from its critical illness cover following changes made by the Association of British Insurers.
The ABI announced last month it was removing two cancers affecting the blood – known as essential thrombocythaemia and polycythaemia – from its statement of best practice cancer definition as examples of pre-maligancy, as new evidence suggested the two cancers might, in fact, be malignant. Pre-malignant cancers are not covered under critical illness (CI) policies whereas malignant ones are.
