IFAs say the decision to give financial planning "chartered" status should help to boost recognition of financial planning as a profession.
Ian Smith, director at Central Financial Planning, says chartered status will “identify IFAs who have higher level qualifications in a user-friendly manner” as financial planning will be seen as “more of a profession than just selling products”. But since the announcement was made on Friday revealing financial advisers will gain chartered status, questions have been raised by the Institute of Financial Planning as to whether consumers may be confused about the difference between the Chartered Financial Planner title and the international Certified Financial Planner status.
