L&G relaunches CI product

Legal & General is relaunching its critical illness product by extending cover to three additional illnesses and incorporating the Association of British Insurers' best practice definitions.

The new product covers three more illnesses than the old product: Encephalitis – inflammation of the brain; Systematic lupus erythematosus – where the immune system attacks normal tissue; and Primary pulmonary hypertension – a blood vessel disorder of the lung. It also incorporates the mandatory changes to CI definitions set out by the ABI and includes wider definitions for some illnesses, including heart attack where it removes the requirement for ‘typical clinical symptoms (such as chest pain)’ from the model definition.
