The Association of British Insurers has accused journalists of conducting "financial terrorism", and says the insurance industry has been unfairly blamed for the current lack of confidence in the long-term savings industry.
Responding to questions from delegates at last week's NAPF conference in Glasgow, ABI chairman Richard Harvey lashed out at critics, and concluded that "kicking the insurance industry is a popular sport". Pointing a particularly sharp finger at the media he said "hacks" in many instances chose to report just a fraction of events unfolding, usually putting the insurance industry in a bad light.
