GlaxoSmithKline cause FTSE comedown

Despite a steady start this morning the FTSE is down 16.5 points, or 0.32% at 5,166.3.

The index looks as if it may end a volatile week in much the same way as it began. At the start of trading the FTSE was holding steady as concerns over the economy, fuelled by weaker-than-expected US data, were offset by gains in heavyweight drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline which has been upgraded investment analysts. GlaxoSmithKline is the top gainer so far, rising 32p, or 2.3% to 1470p after analysts increase its rating on the stock to "buy", first thing this morning. GUS meanwhile, is in free-fall, dropping 11.5p, or 1.39% to 817.5p, following its announcement this morning that it is selli...
