FTSE higher on oil, consumer spending

BP and Vodafone led the FTSE higher by about 39 points to 4,395 this morning, taking the index' rebound since Monday's close to more than 100 points.

ICI leads gainers by percentage share price improvement, up 12.25p to 217.5p on news its second quarter sales and profits were better than expected by the market. BP leads the index gains by points added, rising 10.5p to 508.25p as oil prices hit their highest in a decade overnight following the closure of oil and gas wells operated by Russia’s biggest exporter Yukos. Vodafone is up 1.75p to 119.75p after the UK’s biggest distributor of mobile phone handsets and services Carphone Warehouse forecast a “crazy” Christmas sales season.
