FTSE exceeds 6,000 as commodities stay strong

The FTSE rose 53.9 points, or 0.91%, to 6,001 as commodities stayed strong this afternoon.

Eurasian, a natural resources group, rose 86 points, or 8.51%, to 1096 while Kazakhmys rose 102 points, or 6.41%, to 1693. Meanwhile, HBOS fell 15.5 points, or 2.71%, to 557.5 while Land Securities Group fell 30 points, or 1.94%, to 1514. The Dow Jones rose 66.35 points, or 0.53%, to 12675.77 as General Motors rose one point, or 4.86%, to 21.58. Merck Co. rose 1.29 points, or 3.23%, to 41.29.
