FOS to shame firms after 30 complaints

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) today suggests it should make public those firms that receive 30 complaints or more in a six-month period.

As part of proposals on how it should publish its data, the FOS says it intends to focus on those businesses which receive at least 30 new cases and 30 closed cases in either January to June or July to December. It says the closed cases element is significant because it will provide details of it’s ‘uphold rate’ – those cases where the FOS finds in favour of the consumer. The proposal is unlikely to affect the majority of IFAs and small firms who traditionally have less than three cases referred to the ombudsman service each year.
