Scarborough Building Society chief to retire

John Carrier, chief executive of Scarborough Building Society, will retire at the end of this year.

He has served as chief executive for 16 years, during which time the building society’s assets have grown from £300m to almost £3bn. He says: “As I reach age 60 this year, and with another good set of results expected when we reach our financial year end on 30 April, I have decided that 2008 should be my last year.” Scarborough will advertise the chief executive role nationally in the coming weeks.
