Poor M&S doesn't deter FTSE

UK stocks have gained this morning, with the FTSE 100 trading up about 5 points to 4,721.

Yell, the yellow pages publisher, is up 12p to 382p. Xstrata, the miner, is up 9p to 878p. Marks & Spencer is currently down 3p to 349.75p after issuing news of a slump in sales. First half profits of £292.7m are down from £325.1m recorded in the same period last year. Cadbury Schweppes, the beverage and confectionary company is down 2.75p to 450.25p. Japanese stocks fell again at close early this morning, led by NTT DoCoMo, with analysts concerned over an earnings drop. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average index shed 0.2% to 10,964.87 points, while DoCoMo lost 1.1% to 181,000 yen. Ana...
