2012 London Olympics presents investment gains

Asset managers say there are already strong UK investment benefits to be sought from London winning its bid to stage the 2012 Olympic Games.

JP Morgan, F&C and The Merchants Trust all suggest the major areas for medium-term growth ahead of the Olympics being held in London will specifically be in construction and housing, tourism and leisure, consultancy engineering and transport.Bill O’Neill, strategist at JP Morgan suggests the overall cost of staging the Olympics in London is expected to be around £5bn – a figure which is apparently low based on past experience – and this will result in increased revenues contributing an extra 0.1-0.2% in overall UK gross domestic product (GDP), rising to 0.4% of GDP at a local level in Londo...
