BSkyB pushes FTSE higher

The FTSE 100 is up 20.5 points, or 0.33%, to 6,214.7 in early trading, following a mixed response to trading news.

BSkyB is posting the biggest gains so far with a rise of 2.77% to 537.5p, closely followed by miners Vedanta Resources which is up 2.62% to £11.37, and Xstrata which has gained 2.16% to £23.64. HBOS is also performing well with a rise of 2.47% to £11.60, while ICI has added 2.16% to 460.75p, although gains are being limited by Kingfisher which is down 0.63% to 237.25p, while Northern Rock has slipped 1.49% to £11.91. BP is the biggest drag on the index with a fall of 1.9% to 542p, following a mixed reaction to its trading news, closely followed by Marks & Spencer which has slipped 1.1% ...
