FTSE energised by Centrica

In the UK the FTSE 100 Index has reached about 24 points higher to 5239.70, led by Centrica.

The gas and energy group has added 5.75p to 230.75p, as it contemplates the building of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import plant near its declining Morecambe gas fields off northwest England. Building materials business, BPB has also climbed 10p to 522.5p, on the back of further anticipated price gains for ‘wallboard’. On the losing end, Amvescap has shed 5p to 405.25p, along with recruitment firm Hays, down 1.5p to 126p. In Tokyo the Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost a fraction to 11,786.73, led by Seiyu.
