FAS is not being scrapped - Purnell

James Purnell, the minister for pensions reform, has criticised reports the government is planning to scrap the Financial Assistance Scheme.

Writing in his blog on the department for work and pensions’ (DWP) new Pensions Forum website, Purnell says he wanted to use the online diary to “set the record straight about a story in a couple of papers today”. He points out as the reports may worry some people who are eligible for the scheme, Purnell says he wanted to “make clear this story is not true. In fact we are extending the scheme so it covers more people”. The reports come after the DWP published a 39-page consultation on draft regulations for extending the FAS scheme along with a review on ways to speed up the processing...
