An internet crash has forced HM Revenue and Customs to extend the self- assessment deadline by 24 hours.
HMRC was forced to move today's deadline back to midnight Friday after its Self Assessment Online service suffered “technical difficulties” for a few hours today. Taxpayers face an automatic £100 plus tax fine if they miss the deadline. “HMRC takes any disruption of service very seriously and to reflect this no-one who files electronically or by paper by midnight Friday 1 February 2008 will face a penalty,” HMRC says. “The system is now rapidly returning to normal levels of service.
