The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) has been replaced by the creation of a new Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) headed by Ruth Kelly.
The DCLG is an expanded department with a new remit to promote community cohesion and equality, as well as responsibility for housing, urban regeneration, planning and local government. Ruth Kelly has been tasked with the job of uniting communities and takes over civic renewal responsibilities previously undertaken by the Home Office. She will also have responsibility for regeneration, neighbourhood renewal and local government.
