Ombudsman to increase case fees to £400

The Financial Ombudsman Service is proposing to increase IFA case fees from £360 to £400 from 1 April 2007 because of an anticipated decline in the number of cases it will receive fees for.

The FOS’s Corporate Plan and 2007/08 Budget says the Ombudsman is entering a period of uncertainty where it has to continue to handle high numbers of cases in progress, while at the same time match its resources to a declining intake of new cases. In addition, it expects to receive a large number of time-barred mortgage endowment complaints, many of which it will not receive case fees for but for which it must still fund associated work.
