Remortgage business on the up

Over half (52%) of all homeowners have switched lenders at least once in the last five years, according to figures published by Abbey.

Of those people yet to do so, 65% say they intend to remortgage before the end of the year, many admitting they consider remortgaging as a way to fund lifestyle changes. In the first quarter of 2005 the average number of home loans specifically for people remortgaging accounted for 48% of all home loans compared with 43% in 2004. The research reveals homeowners switching lenders in order to get a better deal, with 40% having done so at least once in the last five years and 11% having remortgaged twice in that period.
