August house prices rise by 0.4%

House prices have risen 0.4% over August meaning the average house now costs around £167,200, claims Hometrack.

In its latest housing market survey, Hometrack says the latest increase brings house price growth so far in 2006 to 3.9%, although it warns the rise in interest rates earlier this month has yet to make an impact. Meanwhile the survey also reveals the north-south divide in house prices has continued throughout August, as average house prices in London grew by 0.9%, while the South West and the South East grew by 0.5% and 0.4% respectively.
